There’s no doubt that college requires a huge amount of work. But another major part of the college experience is taking part in as many of the events and traditions the campus and its surrounding area have to offer. Enjoying these events is not only a great way to embrace the community around the college, but also more often than not results in memories you will take with you through life. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte events are excellent in part because they unite the student body with the surrounding neighborhood. For the events you absolutely do not want to miss, check out the guide below.

Few things are bigger on the calendar of college festivities than homecoming. Homecoming gives current students and alumni the chance to come together and take pride in their college. This day of tailgating and fun usually coincides with a football game. UNC Charlotte’s football program is fairly new, but the atmosphere on this day should be excellent nonetheless. You can even participate in school traditions, like campaigning to be selected to the homecoming court, or taking part in the Homecoming Cup!

International Festival

For more than 40 years, the International Festival has brought cultures from all over the world together to celebrate their differences and similarities. This marketplace-style event features booths that represent over 50 different national cultures, staffed by students and members of the community alike. Music, dancing, crafts, and games are all part of the fun of this event. It’s family-friendly, so of course there is also a good deal of entertainment available for children, including face-painting and mimes. It is a wonderful way to see how Charlotte connects with the rest of the world.

Film Festival

Film festivals are a great chance to see thought-provoking and inspiring cinema that would otherwise be hard to find at your local movie theater. UNC Charlotte’s International Film Festival typically takes place from mid-March to early April, and it’s free and open to the public. The variety here is intriguing; you can attend screenings of films from cinema powerhouses like France and Italy, as well as other countries like Nicaragua and Mauritania. In addition to the screenings, you can take part in discussions, attend lectures, and be treated to guest speakers from important people in the global film community.

Free music is a beautiful thing, especially when you’re talking about the lakeside concerts that happen at University Place. The spring series of concerts is a fun way to unwind during the semester, especially at this venue. You can enjoy a meal from one of the nearby restaurants while enjoying the music on the outdoor patios, or you can hop in a paddleboat and hang out on the lake. Of course, lawn chairs are permitted too, so if you’re in the mood for a musical picnic, this is the place to go. With a wide variety of acts playing here, you’ll definitely want to keep an eye on the schedule when it’s released.

Mark these University of North Carolina at Charlotte events on your calendar — you definitely do not want to miss them!
